It seems that everyone has Netflix these days, but do you really need it? Here are 4 reasons why you don’t…
1. When it’s cold outside and you want to snuggle in with a movie, there are LOTS of viewing options. And, they only cost around $6 each to rent on iTunes and other digital services. So, go ahead and have that movie marathon!! Just be sure to save your loonies if you want to binge-watch the entire Hunger Games series!
2. With so many great TV series out there, you don’t need Netflix. Unless, of course, you want to watch critically acclaimed Netflix Originals like The Crown, Orange Is The New Black, The OA, Stranger Things, House of Cards, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Ozark and more. I mean, these award-winning shows can’t be that awesome, right? Who cares if everyone else at work is talking about them around the water cooler?
3. Flying (or driving) to a warmer clime this winter? You definitely don’t need to download all of your child’s favourite shows on Netflix before you go.
Saving money on WiFi and having a tantrum-free trip is waaaay overrated, anyway!
Your toddler will be fine watching what’s available on the in-flight entertainment system… if it’s working, and if they have shows your kid likes. (Fun fact: 1 in 5 Canadians have suffered through a flight with no entertainment due to faulty in-flight systems.)
And, despite all of the crazy weather we’ve had, there’s no chance your flight will be delayed, so you don’t need to worry about occupying your kids at the airport! Besides, once you’ve arrived safely, your child can play with their iPad at the hotel; WiFi is only $35 a day!
4. For fans of classic and cult tv, you might be able to find some of your favourites (like The Walking Dead, Roswell, Trailer Park Boys, Supernatural, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, The X Files) on regular television, so there’s no need to get a Netflix subscription. Simply do a search on your PVR for your favourite series, and set it to record the weekly episodes. It’s no big deal to wait weeks to build up enough recordings to binge-watch the series, then have to fast-forward through all of the commercials… really.
If you like having cranky kids, wasting time with commercials, missing out on awesome original programming and spending more money, then you definitely don’t need Netflix!
