The Shopping Fun Never Ends With Shopkins {Review & #Giveaway}

prize imageEvery generation is defined by different toys… growing up in the 80s, my favourites were Strawberry Shortcake dolls and Cabbage Patch Kids. These days, my kids love collecting cute miniatures called Shopkins.

If you’ve got school aged kids, there’s a good chance you’ve seen Shopkins – they’re everywhere! We were first introduced to them last year when my daughter got some as a gift. I wasn’t quite sure what to make of the little squishy mini figures at first, but now I’m a fan.

When we received Shopkins toys to review, my kids were beyond excited. My daughter – a mini fashionista in her own right – was over the moon to get the Fashion Spree set. And my son loved the 5-pack that included Terri Taco, Pee Wee Kiwi and more. Needless to say, our house has been swap central these past few weeks as my son and daughter negotiate who gets what.  Surprisingly, there has also been a lot of creative play!

Who knew that something so little could be so much fun?

Part of the allure is the collectible nature of Shopkins. The tag line is “Once you shop, you can’t stop!” and now I can see why. With over 140 to collect each season, there’s a good chance you’ll always be searching for a few that have eluded you. Which brings me to the topic of classifications. Shopkins can be common, rare, ultra rare, exclusive or limited-edition. Fans are always on the lookout for ultra-rare and limited edition figures, like Marsha Mellow, Cupcake Queen and Roxy Ring, which can fetch $1000!

    My 8 and 9 year olds (one boy, one girl) are both obsessed with Shopkins. We have to seek them out everywhere. Each has a special contained to hold theirs. The glittery ones are among their favourites.

    My daughters have just recently gotten into Shopkins and to say they’re obsessed is an understatement! I don’t have a favourite, but I like all the fashion ones!

    My daughter says her favourite Shopkins is Baby Swipes. I personally like the Limited Edition Queen Cupcake.

    Shopkins sure are cute – my daughter is a huge fan. I like them too – the fridge set with the eggs is adorable. Favorites here include Cupcake Chic, Leafy and Peta Plunger, LOL, but how do you choose when they’re all so sweet?

    It is a toss up between the Shoppin Cart and the Ice Cream truck. Both are unique and educational in their own way. The Shoppin cart can teach about good meal choices and price/product comparisons when shopping and the Ice Cream Truck can teach all about customer service and good business practices.

    The ice cream truck is pretty sweet and can help to hold all the little shopkins pieces. My daughter can name most pieces but i just know them by the little cupcake or the little muffin…

    My daughter and her best friend have started collecting these. I have to admit I don’t know a lot about them though but she is asking for some for Christmas so I will have to learn soon! I don’t know her favourite one although I think she’d like Peachy:)

    My daughters have been asking for Shopkins , but I wasn’t sure which are their favourites , they would love any and I’m sure they would have fun trading (saw some kids at the school trading) and playing with them

    My little 9 years old is crazy about shopkins ! They’ve been quite hard to find for about the last years but recently we we’re able to find them. My daughter has a lot of favorite ones but the ultimate one has to be cookie kooky and the glittery ones.

    I was so resistant to my kids getting into Shopkins – only because there are so many and we have no free space in our house! Regardless, a birthday rolled around so now we’re fully into the Shopkins world. I don’t have a fave yet, but I really trying to teach my 7 year that you trade your doubles for ones you don’t have, instead of trading to get two of the same!

    My 4 year old loves the shoes….she’s super excited when she gets duplicates cause then she has a pair….lol. in total she has close to 150 now, maybe more. Shopkins are like money in our house right now….X amount of chores earns you a shopkins blind bag. She has an app on her tablet that let’s her keep track of what she’s got. LOVES EM.
