As a little girl, my favourite tradition was family movie night. That was the special time each week when I became a princess, pirate or fairy and got transported to a far off land; when I imagined myself flying over rooftops or spirited away to a grand ball by a pumpkin carriage. No matter what else was going on in my life – no matter what disappointment or sadness I had experienced – it all seemed to melt away as I was immersed in the glorious story being played out on the screen.
I dreamt of visiting Disney World as a kid, but we didn’t have the means to do so. It wasn’t until the age of 26 that I experienced the magic that is Walt Disney World with my husband and his family (thank you for that trip, G+R ❤️).
It was beyond anything I had ever imagined – and I was a grown adult! The sights and smells, the music and the way it made me feel like a kid again… I’m smiling right now just thinking about it.
Years later, we were lucky enough to go back – this time, with our kids in tow.
Seeing Disney World through their eyes was even better than I thought it would be. The sheer wonder of it all, and the joy on their faces when they got to meet Mickey, Minnie, Tinker Bell, Manny and all of their favourite friends, was beyond amazing. What a momentous trip!
So imagine my surprise and delight when I received an invitation to attend the very first Disney Social Media Moms event in Toronto! (Completely #OverTheMoon!)
I was thrilled to be part of such a wonderful day of learning and sharing. The entire Disney team was extremely welcoming, informative and funny, offering us behind-the-scenes looks at the various departments they work in and what’s coming up for 2016.
It was fantastic to meet (or catch up with) so many amazing Canadian bloggers, and to gain insight about social media from the day’s special guest speakers Kevin Frankish (BT Toronto), Cynthia Loyst and Melissa Grelo (CTV’s The Social). To be honest, I was in awe the entire day.
Like everything Disney, the Social Media Moms event was perfect. It was a positive, upbeat, aspirational kind of day. You could call it ✨magical✨.
For me, Disney isn’t just a place or a company, it’s a state of mind. It’s that optimistic, happiness-filled, dreams-come-true place that not only lives in our minds, but also in our hearts. It’s reflected on the movie screen, the tv, in books and music… it’s everywhere we want (or need) it to be.
And if we let ourselves believe in the magic, we can take on the world.
Many thanks to Disney Canada for their wonderful hospitality and for including me in such a special event. It’s a day I’ll never forget… one that has inspired me to reach a little higher for the stars. ⭐

Love this post Lisa. I know many of us can relate to growing up and imagining ourselves as princesses. The Disney SMMC on the road in #Toronto truly was magical. Loved being there with you!

It’s so fun to hear about this day from those of you who were there! I was able to go to Disney World when I was 11 and have such fun memories from that trip! My husband has never been but we talk often about how we want to get our girls there (& preferably before they lose interest in meeting princesses).. I hope we can find a way to make it happen!

Thanks, Heather! Disney is so magical and I’m thrilled you were able to experience it as a kid. I think that your girls will love it no matter how old they are. Heck, even *I* wanted to meet the princesses!! 😉

Completely magical. This post was magical too, as I too took off dreaming of flying over rooftops for a brief moment.
It was a great day and I am SO HAPPY to spend it with you.
