As a Mom, I want the best for my kids.
From the food we eat to the sunscreen we put on our skin, everything seems to take on greater significance when it comes to them.
So, ever since my first child was little, I’ve been more conscious about what goes into our bodies. In turn, we buy organic produce (the EWG’s Dirty Dozen+ is a good resource) and hormone-free meat whenever possible. We love to buy from markets that get produce directly from local farms, but what to do in the off-season?
Then I did some research (as I love to do!) and found out that nearly all Ontario pork farms are family-owned and operated and these family farms are committed to continuous improvement and ensuring that from farm to fork, the animals raised with care. (Love that!)
The best part? Just like Canadian chicken farmers and milk producers, Ontario pork producers never inject their animals with hormones.
In fact, they are leaders in the Canadian agriculture industry when it comes to developing protocols that demonstrate their commitment to animal care and welfare, as well as food safety.
I also learned about the Animal Care Assessment (ACATM) program they’ve developed and implemented, which helps promote and demonstrate responsible pork production… a way for producers to say what they do, do what they say, and prove it.
Needless to say, I seek out Ontario pork now. There’s no guilt over my ever-so-slight bacon addiction, either!
It’s heartening to see the high level of care and commitment Ontario pork farmers take in raising their animals. So, when you’re looking to feed your family the best, be sure to look for Ontario pork.
