I grew up in a household of women, where our favourite movie genres ranged from rom-coms to dramas and musicals. Sci-fi and shoot-em-up movies were never on the menu!
Fast forward 20 years, to when my husband and I got married. Suddenly, my movie collection was being invaded by… well, invaders! They took the form of clone troopers and aliens – all of the things I had avoided growing up. In fact, my husband couldn’t believe I had never seen Star Wars until I watched it with him. (Yes, it’s true.)
So when our kids started requesting Star Wars for our family movie nights, I watched it with an open mind. And, surprisingly, I’ve grown to love it. Watching it 20 times will do that, I guess. 😉
Now we know all the movie plot lines and we’re obsessed with the books and Lego sets… everything in our house is Star Wars!
Luckily my kids are very well-rounded, so in addition to sci-fi movies, they also love the comedies and musicals I grew up with. This is evident each time we watch Frozen. Both my daughter and son know all the words to all the songs, and they sing them all. Very loudly.
Not surprisingly, the two latest additions to our viewing library – animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars {The Lost Missions} Blu-rayTM and the Frozen Sing-Along Edition DVD – are big with everyone in the family.
A bit about the movies:
Star Wars: The Clone Wars
This series is set between Episodes II and III of the iconic “Star Wars” saga, this series explores the events that helped shape the galaxy far, far away. Joined by an army of clone troopers, the noble Jedi fight to protect the Republic against the Separatists and their droid army led by Count Dooku, hias assassin Asajj Ventress and the evil General Grievous. Some of the deepest mysteries of the light and dark sides of the Force are revealed as an intrepid clone trooper uncovers a shocking conspiracy, Anakin Skywalker’s closest relationship is tested to its limits, and Master Yoda makes a discovery that could forever change the balance of power in the galaxy.
If you love Frozen, you’ll love the Sing-Along Edition… especially if you’re like me and can’t quite follow the lyrics during Elsa and Anna’s duet. Now, we can follow the lyrics with a bouncing Frozen snowflake while we join Anna on her epic journey to find her sister Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter. Throw in Kristoff, the ice man with a heart of gold, the hilarious snowman Olaf and the dastardly Hans… and you’ve got a movie night made in heaven!
My family can’t get enough of these movies… whenever we have screen time, these are the titles they pick. 🙂 So, if you’re still looking for those last-minute holiday gifts, you won’t go wrong with either of these crowd-pleasers.
