Earning #PCPlus Points at No Frills…Because You Can’t Beat FREE!

October 4, 2014 by fabfrugalmama

Have you ever heard the saying, “You can’t get something for nothing”?Well, luckily that’s not true… because when it comes to grocery shopping, that’s exactly what I do.

I’ve shopped at the Loblaws family of grocery stores for years. Their unique products (many from the President’s Choice line), as well as the shopping experience, quality, and value are all things that have kept me coming back. Then, last year, Loblaws came out with yet another reason for me to remain loyal – their PC Plus program.

http://www.pcplus.ca

I cannot tell you the number of times I’ve touted the benefits of having a PC Plus account. Usually it’s while I’m in line, paying for my groceries.

Er… not paying for them, actually.

I’ve racked up so many PC Plus points over the past year and a half that I’ve earned at least $500 worth of free groceries. (Yes… there are two zeros there. πŸ™‚
People are often amazed when they see me swipe my PC Financial debit card to pay for three huge bins of food and the total is… $0?! (You can’t beat free!)

So, when I heard that my favourite points program was coming to No Frills, the frugalista in me was beyond excited!

Here’s how it works:

  1. Register for a PC Plus account (it’s free!)
  2. Swipe your card whenever you buy groceries at No Frills* Tip: earn extra points when you pay for your groceries with a President’s Choice Financial debit or credit card *Find your closest store by clicking here.
  3. Earn extra bonus points on items you buy regularly by loading the personalized offers sent to you weekly via email. Tip: get the PC Plus app on your smartphone to load offers and check your balance on the go (that’s what I do!)

A screenshot of my weekly offers. Some items are new
(Larabar & Kraft Dinner); the rest are items we purchase regularly
No Frills has always been the go-to grocery store for great value in a more, well, no frills environment. But, what I didn’t realize until recently is that No Frills has greatly expanded their offering to include many of the non-standard items I buy for my family every week, like organic produce.

The organic produce section is awesome! (And this isn’t even all of it…)

Other items, like PC Organics frozen fruit and applesauce cups, are a must-have when packing lunches for my picky kindergartener. I love knowing I can get all these items at my local No Frills store and the fact that I can now earn points on everything I purchase makes shopping there a no-brainer.

Check out some of the items I was pleasantly surprised to find at my local No Frills…

The PC Organics Power Fruit Blend, shown above, is a favourite in my house. We use it to make smoothies every day, so we go through a lot of it.  Often, my PC Plus offers will include this item, so I often earn 1,000 points per bag – that’s $1.00 in points each! I stock up when it’s on sale, and this fruit ends up being cheaper than the non-organic frozen fruit.

Do you collect PC Plus points? If so, what’s your favourite tip for maximizing them? I’d love for you to share it!
