“Nailing It” For Spring

Ahh… spring is in the air. Or at least, it should be.

It’s still cold where I am, but I relish those few rare days of beautiful weather we’ve had over the past few weeks. No matter how few, they have spurred me on to get in a spring state of mind. (Grasping at straws here, but what’s a desperate sun-loving girl to do?)

You may know from previous posts that I’m a reformed nail-biter and I love posting pics of fun manicures and fab colours in my nail polish “wardrobe”. So, what better way to usher in spring than to create a fresh look for my nails?!

I started off by taking a trip to my local Shoppers Drug Mart to scope out some new products to try because they always have such a great selection. I’ve loved Sally Hansen products for a long time – (and especially love their Complete Salon Manicure polish) so I took a peek at their product lineup to get some inspiration. Needless to say, there was a lot to choose from!

At first, I was hooked on the idea of buying some nail polish strips (I had tried a sample from my Flare magazine and loved them)…

… but then the nail art polishes and pens caught my eye.
They looked like a lot of fun, especially for a crafty, artsy girl like me. And, while I know I won’t be as deft at nail art as my favourite manicurist at the local nail salon, I’d love to give it a try.
I chose nail art pens in turquoise and pearly white (fine tip), as well as striper polish in hot pink, black, purple and white (as shown above).
Next, I needed to decide on a design. I love argyle, so I gave it a try.
It was ok, but I think I need to get a bit more practice with the striper brushes before I can do argyle well. 🙂
I decided I needed to try something a bit simpler, so I settled on the most spring-y design of all – a flower! This was much easier and I think the results were much better. This is what my manicure turned out like…

Here’s how I did it…
I started by painting my nails (with the exception of my ring fingers) a beautiful pink colour – Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Flashy Fuchsia.
Next, I applied iridescent white to my ring fingers. Once they were dry, I made two dots using Sally Hansen I ♥ Nail Art Striper polish in Hot Pink which formed the centres of the flowers (shown in step 1, below). Then, I used Sally Hansen I ♥ Nail Art polish pens to do the rest – Turquoise for the flowers (step 2) and Pearly White to add accents to the centre of the flower and each petal (step 3).
I finished off with a glossy top coat to seal everything in.

I love the result and have already received compliments on my manicure. Thanks to #CollectiveBias for inspiring me to try out a new look. If you want a fun way to usher in the spring, give it a try!

Thanks for the shout-out! Ahhh… if only you saw my nails when they were bitten and ratty! LOL Really, manicures are the only way to keep my nails pretty, so I do them religiously.
