Planes
We never got the chance to see Planes in the movie theatre, but were excited to feature it on our last Family Movie Night here at home. We take our Friday evenings seriously…no messing around! There’s got to be a fab movie, popcorn and lots of snuggling, or else it’s just not FMN!
I’ll start off by saying that the kids hooted and hollered throughout a good portion of the movie. They obviously had a blast watching it. The storyline was cute too, albeit a bit formulaic for my adult sensibilities. The kids, however, didn’t take notice of that – they were too ingrained in the underdog-succeeds-against-all-odds storyline, which I think is sweet. They were rooting for Dusty all the way!! It’s a great message (never give up!), and my kids loved it from start to finish. Overall, a hit with the littles.
The world of Cars takes flight in Planes, Disney’s high-flying animated comedy revved up with action and adventure. Join Dusty, a crop duster with sky-high dreams and a once-in-a-lifetime chance to take on the world’s fastest flyers in the greatest air race ever. Dusty has a huge heart but two big problems…he’s not exactly built for speed, plus he’s afraid of heights. His courage is put to the ultimate test as this unlikely hero aims higher than he ever imagined. With a little help from his friends, Dusty finds the courage to be more than he was built for—and the inspiration to soar.
Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Never Land Rescue
My kids have always loved Jake and the Neverland Pirates, so it was a no-brainer to add this DVD to our collection. There’s something about the adorable foursome (Jake, Izzy, Cubby and Scully the bird) that my kids are attracted to. I love that the show promotes working together and problem solving – things that every child should learn. This DVD doesn’t feature a full-length movie, but instead contains 30-minute episodes, which are perfect for those times when a movie is just too long. This also makes it desirable for parents of younger children, with shorter attention spans. My kids both loved this DVD and could watch the epidodes over and over again.
About the movie…
Jake embarks on his most heroic mission ever as the magic of Never Land begins to disappear just as the ancient Forever Tree seems to be fading away. After a mysterious figure known as “The Guardian” arrives to explain that only the pirate who truly believes in himself can save Never Land from vanishing completely, Jake must break off from the rest of his crew and go alone on a mission to save the Forever Tree, the source of magic throughout all of Never Land. Guiding Jake on his quest is Tinker Bell, who makes her first-ever appearance in the series.
Both DVDs were released yesterday, and would make fabulous options for gifts this holiday. If you’ve got any mini movie buffs in your house, check out these titles!
I didn't realize Planes was out! I'll have to rent it so my kids can watch it!
