Toys My 3-year-old LOVES: Transformers Rescue Bots & Kre-o Cityville Invasion #FFMGiftGuide {Reviews & a #Giveaway}

There are a few things my youngest child is obsessed with lately… and I’m loving both of them, too!First off, you’ve probably heard of the popular series called Transformers, right? It was a cartoon series when I was younger, then it turned into a blockbuster multi-movie series… and now it’s back as my little guy’s favourite show – Transformers Rescue Bots!


If you haven’t seen this show, you should take a peek. I like it because it’s a milder, gentler version of the franchise, meant to appeal to younger audiences (and their parents). You won’t find any shoot-’em-up scenes or scary visuals… just intriguing storylines and cute animation for the preschool to elementary school-aged set.

Of course, along with any new show comes a plethora of fun toys so that kids can act out their favourite scenes. In this case, it’s the Transformers Rescue Bots 6″ toys from Hasbro (under the Playskool banner) that transform from robots to their rescue vehicles – Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Chase the police-bot, Heatwave the fire-bot, Blades the copter-bot and Boulder the construction-bot.

My son’s favourites are Boulder and Chase, but I’m sure that will change from week to week, depending on which tv episode is on his replay list at the time. 🙂

These are super-cute and provide lots of opportunities for creative play for little ones. Because the Rescue Bots TV series focuses on helping others and working together, it’s a show you can be comfortable letting your child watch and act out.

 

The second big thing my son currently loves is playing with building blocks. He especially likes the building sets that allow him to build, for example, a police car or a fire station. The appeal, I think, is that he sees them as two toys in one… he gets to build, then also play with a real-looking model of something.

Kre-O Cityville Marina Madness

Enter Kre-o Cityville Invasion – a cool series of block sets that not only look cool and provide hours of building fun, but have sonic motion technology! Sound waves trigger specific movements in special KRE-O bricks creating a live action scene for kids to enjoy, where the unique cities they create shuffle, swim, crash or roar to life! My kids went ape for this, and erupted into giggles each time their ‘Marina Madness‘ creations shook. It’s a fun twist on the classic building block genre and the fun part is that you can add as many sets together as you want, for more excitement and adventure. I also like that you don’t have to buy big sets; they offer smaller vehicle sets and character assortments, too (these make GREAT stocking stuffers!).

I must admit, building sets drive me somewhat batty because my gut
instinct is to separate them into ziploc bags, so as not to mix up the sets  (I know it’s a bit insane but, otherwise, I’d have no clue as to
where the pieces are to put them back together… because you *know*
they’re going to get smashed up!) However, the kids have so much fun combining the sets and building new, interesting things that I might just have to give it up!

Overall, this set was a hit with the kids – and I love that toys like Kre-o help with spatial and fine motor skills, while being fun at the same time.

    Transformers have been around for a long time and I think they are a great toy because you can use your imagination with them. Likewise building blocks, I don't think they will ever go out of style.
