It’s been awhile since I last shopped for jeans, but I know why so many women hate it… because I’m usually one of those women.

Mention shopping and I get giddy, but add the words “bathing suit” or “jeans” to the sentence and my excitement turns to dread. The funny thing is, I used to be able to do it. In fact, I reveled in the hunt. The challenge to find the perfect pair would invigorate me.

But now… not so much.

I’m not sure if it’s that I feel overwhelmed by the seemingly never ending racks of choices, or that as I get older I just don’t have the patience to sort through them all. What I *do* know is that I jumped at the chance to try out the Jean Machine Perfect Pair experience at Jean Machine. I loved the idea of getting a new pair of jeans that would be picked out for me by my very own Master of Denim (MoD). Yes, you heard it right – no more trawling the racks in vain! This time, I’d have some serious back-up with me to navigate the denim waters, so to speak.

I arrived at my local Jean Machine with an objective – to get a pair of slim straight leg jeans. I have lots of boot cut and skinny jeans, so I thought it would be smart to get a versatile style that would work with lots of different styles of tops and shoes, and also be a little different from what I currently own.

My Master of Denim, Zena, was there to greet me and assured me it would be a painless process. (Spoiler alert – it actually ended up being fun!)

She asked me a bit about what I was looking for and I mentioned my interest in straight cut jeans, and my need for a “crack-free” waistband (see photo, below). All you Moms out there know how important this is! 🙂

Next, we did a quick tour of the store, where she had me point out washes and colours that I liked.

Then, she escorted me to a change room and brought me a few styles to start with. This helped her determine whether or not she was on the right track from a fit/size perspective.

After that, she was able to work her magic! I tried on at least four cute outfits and had a difficult time choosing my ultimate favorite pair of jeans. In the end, though, the Second Denim Yoga jeans in a fitted trouser style won out. While the leg is a little more flared than I had originally wanted, I fell in love with the dress-them-up-or-down style and Yoga Jeans’ legendary comfort and wearability. And, yes, they passed the crack test. 😉

Because of the versatility of this style and the dark wash, I can wear these jeans in lots of different ways. I will dress them up with a fitted button-down shirt, jacket and high-heel ankle boots; I’ll dress them down with a slim solid-colour long-sleeve t-shirt, patterned scarf and distressed leather boots.

I must admit, experiencing the Jean Machine Perfect Pair promise – and having a one-on-one fitting with a Master of Denim – really brought back the fun in shopping for jeans. I know where I’m going for my next pair!!
