If You’re Using An Umbrella, It Might As Well Be Cheeky! {Review + Giveaway}

When it rains, it pours – literally.

And when you’re caught in a bad downpour, the thing you wish for most is a really good umbrella, right? (But not just any umbrella – a super stylish one!)

Well, over the past few months we’ve had more rain than I care to think about, but when I went outside I knew that I would be just fine because I had a cute and exceptionally well-made umbrella.

Where did I get it, you ask?

Cheeky Umbrella, of course!

Cheeky’s tagline is “Umbrellas with Personality” and it’s very fitting. They carry a huge selection of styles for adults and kids, all with fun sayings or cool designs on them, which definitely appeals to my inner fashionista. I mean, if I go to the trouble of choosing a nice handbag and shoes, why would I wreck my outfit with a ratty old umbrella?

When it came to choosing my umbrella, a bit of strategic thinking went into the final decision. I weighed the pros and cons of all the sizes (compact fits in my purse, but classic has more coverage, etc) and eventually made up my mind. Since I walk my kids to school every day, I chose Cheeky’s Classic Long version in Polka Dots; with its ample arc and wide diameter it’s sure to keep my little guy and me dry. And, because my mini-me is old enough to walk without holding my hand, she has a matching kid version.

Fittingly, the first time we had a chance to use the umbrellas was during a major storm. (The wind was gusting so hard that it brought down a tree on my street!) They held up amazingly, with nary a hint of flipping – even in the crazy wind! And the fabric, in such pretty patterns and colours, is really high quality. My daughter commented on how cute hers is, and loves how easy it is to open and close.  In fact, she loves her new umbrella so much that she insists on using it as a parasol on sunny days, too. (How chic!)

My little guy wanted an umbrella, too… so guess who got wet? 😉

While über-stylish and fun, what I love the most about my Cheeky Umbrella is the way it’s constructed. Here’s why… (cue the long, drawn-out technical description; if you’re not a “details” person and just want the nitty gritty, you can skip this part!)

Every other umbrella I’ve owned has the umbrella fabric sewn directly into the tips (those pointy bits that the fabric is stitched onto around the edges), which are permanently attached to the ribs (the curved metal strips that form the shape of the umbrella). If the tip catches on something, causing the thread to break, a corner of the umbrella fabric flaps around. But my Cheeky Umbrella has removable tips – genius! This way, if I catch my umbrella on something (which I’m prone to do) and the tip comes off, the fabric stays securely attached to it and I just need to pop the tip back onto the end of the rib. (See, aren’t you glad you read the long-version… I’m nothing if not thorough!)

The style factor alone is enough to make you check out the Cheeky site and pick your favourite design, but the amazing quality and attention to detail is what will keep you a happy – and dry – customer.

    I like the Raining Men Classic Compact Umbrella because the yellow will bright up the otherwise gloomy rainy day. I like the compact umbrella because it's easy to carry in my bag because it can rain anytime here in the west coast.

    I'm partial to the brightly coloured umbrellas, AND the black classic. ultimately, I think my very favourite is the Black Classic Long Umbrella, because it suits everyone in the household and because it can be used for a great prop in period piece plays!

    friends classic compact umbrella.. i really like the flowers. it gives colour but i like the black to keep it neutral (rafflecopter marie cat)
