While we visit the library quite often, I find there are quite a few books my kids love so much that we want to add them to our permanent collection. If my child wants the same story every night for months in a row, who am I to say no? Needless to say, I’m a sucker for books.
My little guy is really into dinosaurs and vehicles right now (trains, cars, construction vehicles… you name it) and was overjoyed to receive a fantastic ‘Touch and Feel’ dinosaur book from his grandparents. This was one of those books that we had to read every night. Sometimes twice. ☺ I tweeted out my son’s love of this book one day and the kind folks at DK Canada (who published the book) were sweet enough to get in touch and send out some other books they thought my son would like. They even included some for my daughter – such a nice gesture!
The minute my kids opened the package, their joy was evident. They quickly took their books into the living room and were engrossed for at least an hour. I asked them each what they liked about the books, then we sat down and read together.

Here is a review of our favourites…
My Terrific Dinosaur Book
I will admit to being completely blown away when I opened this book. The illustrations are fantastic; lots of dinosaur facts are presented in an engaging, fun way. And the bells and whistles…I mean, what doesn’t it have? (Pop-ups – check! Moving parts – check! Sounds – check!) My son just turned three, and he can already identify many dinosaurs and tell you the difference between herbivores, carnivores and omnivores – amazing! He loves this book and it has become a “go-to” favourite.

The Big Book of Crafts & Activities
I’m a crafty girl by nature, and I’ve passed that love onto my kids. So when my daughter opened this book, she was in heaven!! She voraciously devoured each and every page, soaking up the activities and making mental notes about which she would try first. She showed me her favourites and pointed out how cute the projects were. It was obvious that a lot of care went in to the design and creation of the book. The projects are beautiful, yet not intimidating, due to the easy to understand step-by-step tutorials. There are so many usable projects in the book… hair accessories, decorative boxes, and more. With school having just let out for the summer, this is the perfect opportunity to make some. There’s nowhere I’d rather be than with my kids, glue gun in hand and glitter at the ready!
So many fun activities in my daughter’s favourite, The Big Book of Crafts & Activities |
We just tried the cute Beaded Butterfly Pendant activity yesterday and the results were great… check out our creation!
My kids simply love the books they received from DK Canada. The quality is fabulous and the prices are very reasonable. Take a peek at their online catalogue – you’ll be surprised at how many amazing titles jump out at you! Funnily enough, I’m noticing now just how many DK books are in my kids’ libraries. Even my son’s treasured Cars sticker book encyclopedia is from DK!
A huge thanks to DK Canada for the wonderful books. ☺
