One of my favourite treats was Rice Krispie squares.
I
think my Mom loved them too because, not only were they delicious, but they
were SO quick and easy. In fact, I vividly remember loving them even as a teenager. When my best friend and I embarked on a Spring Break trip to Florida, her Mom sent us packing with a huge bag of them, and not one square was left when we touched down!
So, when I was sent a care package from Kelloggs with all the ingredients for a batch of spooktacular Halloween treats, I was thrilled!!
My kids love cooking with me, and this was a great activity for them to really get involved – even at such young ages.
We made the mixture according to the recipe on the Rice Krispies box, then put it into a deep-sided cookie sheet. The kids had a blast using the cookie cutters to make the bat and pumpkin shapes. With the leftover mixture, we rolled balls for making one-eyed monsters and mini graveyards! There were so many fun candies to use – we had gummy eyeballs, chocolate tombstones, sugar bones and even strip bubblegum to make mummies.

They were so easy, even the kids could cut them out! |
I think they turned out great, and my daughter loved them so much that she insisted we make them for her school Halloween party next week. So, we’ll be doing this again… something she’s very much looking forward to! Bonus: Rice Krispie treats are a fun, nut free treat so they’re classroom friendly. 🙂
