IndigoKids – Your One-Stop, Makes-Mama-Happy Shop!

April 18, 2012 by fabfrugalmama

Ever find yourself needing a birthday gift in a pinch? You know the scenario… you RSVP’d weeks ago, and the date of the event has slipped your mind. Your calendar pops up with a reminder the day before the party (or, heaven forbid, 1 hour before!) and you’re stuck. You need a great gift… but how?

Have no fear, IndigoKids is here! 🙂

I’ve shopped at Indigo a lot over the past few years. Their selection of gifts and books – all in one convenient location – is really hard to beat! I usually gravitate to their wide array of Melissa and Doug toys for my kids, but when I visited IndigoKids a few weeks ago, it was to pick out a birthday gift for someone else… my nephew whose sixth birthday was approaching. Cars 2 is his favourite movie at the moment, so with that in mind, off I went to find just the right gift.

For me, visiting Indigo is like a mini-vacation. There’s Starbucks, great shopping, free gift-wrapping… what more could a girl ask for? When I arrived, I headed straight for the toy section, where I was delighted to find Cars-themed Lego on sale for 20% off – score! I chose Lightning McQueen and Mater Lego sets, but couldn’t find anything with Finn McMissile (his favourite character), so I went to check out some Cars books for him. With the help of a very accommodating staff member, I found a few leveled readers appropriate for his age, and ended up getting a few for my daughter, too! (She loves Fancy Nancy!) I am a firm believer in always having an activity book in the car to keep kids occupied in a pinch, so when I spied some great puzzle and maze books on the sale table, I couldn’t resist.

Before I left, I realized that my little guy was left out (doesn’t the youngest always get the shaft? LOL), so I chose a wonderful dump truck for him, which he absolutely loves!

As I approached the checkout, I remembered I had my Plum Rewards card, which gives me points towards free merchandise every time I shop at Indigo. (I love getting free stuff, don’t you?)  I was also relishing the idea of not having to wrap the presents myself. One more thing to strike off my to-do list… ahhh, I felt lighter already!

Salvina was very helpful and not only rang up my purchases, but escorted me to the gift-wrapping area and did a fantastic job making my parcels look pretty.

The entire process was not only painless… it was actually fun! Why can’t every store offer their customers this perfect mix of merchandise, complimentary services and amazing customer care?

My nephew loved his birthday presents and couldn’t wait to put together his new Cars Lego. The books were a hit, too… Cars and the Incredibles make reading very cool!

The next time you are tasked with buying a child’s birthday gift, do yourself a favour and go to IndigoKids. It’s fast, easy and painless. You’ll be done with plenty of time left to relax and enjoy a coffee.

Win it!

IndigoKids wants you to experience just how easy buying a children’s gifts can be, so they’re giving away a $35 Indigo gift card to one lucky Fab Frugal Mama reader!

Hi Vanessa! Although you may not have a store nearby, you can shop online and take advantage of many of Indigo's helpful tools, such as the gift finder (by age) and gift wrapping (for a small fee). One great online feature – loot bags, party favours, invites and decorations can all be ordered without leaving your house! You can even set up birthday reminders on their website, so you'll never miss one! Check it out: http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/birthday/
      Thanks for your comment! 🙂

I LOVE indigokids because it's sooo close to my house! We love to pop in after school some days to just browse and explore! I love the bright and colourful setting, and that they don't mind the kids zoomin around on the plasmacars or bouncin' a ball!

IndigoKids would be helpful as it would be one-stop shopping for kids. I love that they offer recommendations for various age ranges. That's very helpful!

IndigoKids is such a fun place to shop! It also warrants a bit of sanity for Mom in the little play area. Our local IndigoKids has a tea cup set up in the middle of the store where the children can sit and read. My daughter digs that!

I love that you can shop by age. Having a 1 year old, makes keeping track of what is suitable (ie choking hazards) is a Snap on their website with the age option 😉
