To be fair, I didn’t have an attachment to this lamp, nor was it a major purchase (Martha Stewart from Home Depot!), but I happened to like it – a lot. It was modern, fresh, and a great addition to our living room. But, if I’m really honest with myself, what annoys me more than the lamp breaking is the fact that I’m starting to feel like I’m entering “those years”… you know, when your kids are of a certain age that makes it impossible to keep a house looking respectable; when you fear for your treasured heirlooms and other breakables, so you put them away (far, far away!); when adult space, as you know it, ceases to exist. That scares me! I always told myself that this wouldn’t happen… I wouldn’t let it. Yet, here we are.
I guess that’s just one of the sacrifices we make as parents, although it’s not one I’m completely at peace with. I’m doing my best to teach the kids to be respectful of property and, for the most part, they listen.
But then a ball toss ensues, a lamp breaks… and what goes up, must come down!
