When I think of all the kids’ gear I’ve purchased over the past 5 years, my head literally spins.
Despite attempts to limit consumption, the reality is that kids require a lot of stuff. From strollers and toys, to clothes and sports equipment, the list is never-ending. And, when I think of how much all of those much-needed items cost…well, let’s just say I’d rather not!
Being a frugal mama, I’ve always labelled my kids’ stuff, because I don’t want it to end up in the lost and found. If it’s got a label it won’t get lost, right? That’s what I thought, until I realized that labels with my child’s name on them only work if something’s lost at daycare or a friend’s house. What happens if an item is lost when we’re out-and-about, as we so often are? I’d consider it gone. That is, until a few years ago when I stumbled upon Oliver’s Labels.
Having mentioned them in a previous post, you probably already know that I love these labels, so when I was given the opportunity to review one of their newest products – Date Labels – I jumped at the chance.
A bit about them…
Example of Found-it™ code |
Oliver’s Labels is a company that makes beautiful, durable labels (and other stuff) in vibrant, full-colour designs, with a distinct edge over other brands – their exclusive (and free!) Found-it™ system. It’s an optional code printed on labels (and tags) that is linked to the owner’s email address. If a lost item is found, instructions on the label direct the finder to report it on the Oliver’s Labels website. Then, an email is generated and sent to the owner – all done anonymously without having to reveal personal information. Smart, right? But, it isn’t the only thing I love about them!
Oliverโs Labels has so many beautiful designs to choose from for kids, tweens, teens and adults, so there’s something for everyone. No more settling for plain labels because the only other options are farm animals or trains! Oliver’s offers a wide range of customization options (over 35 designs, 40 colours and 5 fonts), and their printing is guaranteed never to rub or scuff off – even on their shoe labels.
Having used a wide array of their products in the past, I can tell you that their Stick-eez™ clothing labels really do stick to tags and stay put; their Shoe Labels are still going strong on my 4-year-old’s shoes (a miracle, if you ask me!); the Original Labels haven’t budged on my toddler’s sippy cups; and, the Mini Labels are a lifesaver on my glass storage containers – they don’t come off in the dishwasher like other brands I’ve tried.
The Date Labels I was sent to review quickly became one of my “sanity savers”. I can’t tell you the number of times hubby would look in the fridge, peruse the leftovers and ask, “Is that still good to eat?”. (Some days, I couldn’t tell you what I ate for lunch that day, let alone three nights ago!) With Date Labels, it’s problem solved. They also come in handy in the freezer. If you’ve got a deep freeze like I do, it can be a black hole! If an item is labelled, there’s no guessing when that casserole was frozen or how old the meatloaf is. ๐
The labels are quick and easy to apply, and come with a grease pencil to write the contents and date with. The writing can be wiped off with a wet, soapy cloth (see picture at left), so the label is ready for its next use. My labelled containers and lids have been in the dishwasher repeatedly over the past few weeks with no signs of wear. They are not only nice to look at, but are truly functional too! These will surely continue to be a staple in my fridge and freezer!
And, they can be a staple in yours, too! One Fab Frugal Mama reader will win a $20 gift card, courtesy of the wonderful folks at Oliver’s Labels!

Thanks for following anyway, Sue! This was before I started using Rafflecopter, so it wasn't obvious unless you looked closely at the date. ๐ Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday and best wishes for the New Year!
